What Is Trauma-Informed Therapy for Trauma?

Trauma-Informed therapy for trauma supports adults living with the long-term impact of experiences that were too much, too soon. My approach is trauma informed throughout, meaning every part of the work accounts for how trauma affects the nervous system, not just what happened. For many people that trauma started in childhood, whether that was neglect, bullying, sexual abuse, narcissistic abuse, or growing up faster than they should have. The effects don’t stay in the past. They show up now, in how safe you feel in relationships, how much you brace for things to go wrong, and how disconnected you can feel from your own body.

Understanding Childhood Trauma

How Does Childhood Trauma Affect Adult Relationships?

Childhood Trauma shapes what you expect from people before they’ve even shown you who they are. Hypervigilance, difficulty trusting, and a nervous system stuck on high alert are common, even when nothing in the room is actually dangerous. Underneath it is often a quieter fear: that if you’re too much, or need too much, the people you rely on will step back. So you stay easy. You stay manageable.

What Are the Signs of Childhood Trauma in Adults?

Feeling responsible for other people’s emotions. Struggling to rest without guilt. A constant low-level bracing for something to go wrong, even when life is currently fine. Some people recognise themselves instantly in this. Others have spent so long being capable that they’ve never stopped to ask why capability became the whole job.

Why Do I Find It So Hard to Ask for Help?

Usually because you were the one who held things together. If you were a young carer, emotionally responsible for a parent, or the child who kept the peace, self-sufficiency stopped being a choice and became the shape of who you are. Asking for help now can feel like breaking a rule nobody ever actually stated out loud.

How Trauma Therapy Works

Trauma therapy with me isn’t about reliving everything all at once. It’s much slower and safer than. We work at a pace your nervous system can actually tolerate, processing what happened without it flooding you, and rebuilding a sense of safety in your own body rather than just talking around it. Some of the work is understanding what happened. A lot of it is teaching your body that it’s allowed to feel safe now, even when the story that shaped it wasn’t.

If something in you has never quite felt settled, that’s enough of a reason to start. Many of the patterns here show up as people-pleasing in adulthood too, the two can often be connected.

Trauma-Informed Support for PTSD and C-PTSD

I also support adults living with symptoms of PTSD and C-PTSD, using an approach built around regulation first, insight second. We go at your pace, not a set structure.

How Can Trauma-Informed Therapy Help

  • You process childhood trauma at a pace you can actually tolerate, not all at once
  • You start to feel safe in your own body, not just able to talk about feeling safe
  • You recognise the signs of childhood trauma in yourself without it becoming a diagnosis you carry around
  • You understand how childhood trauma affects your adult relationships, and start to change the pattern
  • You get support with PTSD and C-PTSD symptoms, regulation first
  • You stop bracing for something to go wrong when nothing actually is

A Little More About Me

Away from client work, I’m usually found cooking (never baking, that’s a hard no!), catching up with family and friends, or hanging out with my four-legged friend. I’m also incapable of walking past a dog on the street without stopping to say hello.

Being outdoors, travelling, and running are what keep me grounded day to day, and that’s part of what allows me to be fully present with the people I work with
